Since
1998 Kayak Jacó
has been running safe, fun paddling trips in the Jaco area.
Our recipe for success though; has a long history.
Neil Kahn and Yasmin Chollette have a combined history of over 45
years of experience in the paddle sports/tourism industry.
We have been influential in bringing paddlesports to the general
public. And now we are
bringing you the finest paddling tours for non-experienced paddlers. Costa Rica Outrigger We designed and build
the canoes that we use. They are
over 40 feet long(13 meters), and hold 8 paddlers, in single file, plus their
guide in comfort. They are stable,
sexy and beautiful. It's
like “rafting on the
ocean." The outrigger
canoes are the ideal craft to move people under their own power on the ocean.
Each outrigger canoe is steered by a guide, or steersman(timonel) with up
to 8 clients providing the paddling power.
The tour is easy, and the canoes are comfortable,
incredibly stable and safe, and they require client participation.
We have 5 outrigger canoes ready to go.
That gives us a capacity of 40
clients. This tour is truly
for everyone with a sense of adventure and the ability to handle a little bit of
physical activity. It is a
great family outing and our clients include cruise ship shore excursions,
corporate incentive groups and youth groups.
Children as young as 2 months have enjoyed the trip. As an added bonus we
include snorkeling on all our tours when conditions permit.
Our location offers the best snorkeling on the Central Pacific Coast. Outrigger canoes have been transporting people on tropical oceans of the world for almost a thousand years. Their no-nonsense practicality, and seaworthiness make them a natural for carrying tourists to secluded beaches for a short exotic get-away. That is exactly what we do at Costa Rica Outriggers. We operate 2 different kayak tours at this time.

#1. Kayak/Snorkeling--1/2
day from Jacó This tour departs and ends at our base in Playa Agujas (see page describing base) After some brief instruction clients are ready to go paddling. The ocean is calm and non-threatening. We will paddle 30 to 40 casual minutes along spectacular cliffs filled with pelicans and frigate birds to one of our destination beaches. All of our destinations are beautiful, the difference will be in the quality of the snorkeling and the size of group that the location can comfortably accomodate. The quality of the snorkeling, like the weather, is a variable of the tour that we have no control over. But we will be in the best location for snorkeling on the Central Pacific Coast. Trip includes all equipment necessary, a fresh fruit buffet served on the beach, bottled water during the trip, and cold drinks and beer at the end. 1/2 day from Jacó |

#2. Río Tulín.--1/2 day from Jacó, Kayaking down the Río Tulín is about as relaxing as kayaking can get. The current will do almost all of the work for the 2+ hours that we are on the knee deep water. Just kick back and enjoy the view as we float past birds, iguanas, Jesus Christ Lizards, and maybe even a small croc or two. Its about a 20 minute drive from Jacó to the put-in and our take-out is the spectacular Tulín rivermouth. Ice cold drinks and beer await the paddler at the end while the guides load up the equipment for the return trip to Jacó. (about 35 minutes) |

Kayak Jacó and Costa Rica Outriggers were created to give “Fun on the water” for our clients. Not just fun, but fun in an adventurous ecologically sound manner. Our tours are fun, they are interesting and require active participation by our clients.
Costa Rica Outriggers tours would be similar in difficulty to a trip on the Río Corobicí. Meaning a very easy trip. Clients will be called upon to paddle the canoe. But the canoe will continue on it´s way if one were to skip a few strokes. Clients will spend almost a full 3 hours participating in the activity, which will include paddling along spectacular cliffs, until landing on a beautiful light colored sand beach. probably one of the most picturesque beaches they will see on their vacation.
During the “green” season we have a beautiful waterfall to visit and play in as well. While on the beach they will be served a fresh fruit buffet. Bottled water will be available at anytime the client should desire.
After snorkeling, beach time, tidal pool exploration, hermit crab races, etc, etc, it will be time to paddle back to our put in location. Upon arrival, ice cold soft drinks and beer will be offered to the clients as they shower and change clothes prior to their departure. Current capacity is 40 paddlers.

The tour with Kayak Jacó is exactly the
same except that clients will be paddling their own sit-on-top sea kayaks.
Our fleet of single kayaks was updated October 2000 with one of the most
beautiful easy to paddle sit-on-top kayaks on the market.

The kayaks are easy to paddle and very comfortable because we use
excellent backrests. We have 4 tandems kayaks and 8 singles,
giving us capacity for 16 paddlers.
Private bathrooms and changing rooms as well as showers are
available at the put-in/take out.
Our take-off/landing point is a very protected beach that does not
receive much in the way of waves.
It is only 15 minutes away from Los Sueños-Marriott.
In our 4 seasons of business we have only had to cancel 2 trips due to
wave size. Wave
size and tides do affect the quality of the snorkeling.
Our guides and support staff are experienced water
men/women, they are people who understand and respect the ocean.
Yasmin has over 10 years of reservations and office managerial experience gained at Ríos Tropicales and IATA (International Air Transport Association) among others.
Neil has been actively involved in every aspect of the paddling business for over 23 years. He is currently on the Costa Rican Surf Kayaking Team
