Parque Zoológico Simón Bolívar

Costa Rica's Zoo, Simón Bolívar, is also a National Botanical Garden and an Environmental Educational Center. Challenged by wildlife conservation activists, the Zoo is currently undergoing critical changes to thoroughly improve the conditions of animals in captivity.

The Zoo was founded in 1916, and it's home to more than 300 animals and 150 species of native plants, some of them endangered species. The area is a green remnant at the edge of a busy town. There is a picnic area, a gift shop, and a library open to the public.

Fundación Pro Zoológicos is in charge of managing the Zoo.
