Museo del Jade Fidel Tristán
The National Insurance Institute (Instituto Nacional de Seguros -INS-), to the north of Parque España, houses the Museum of Jade Fidel Tristán, officially inaugurated back in 1977. It was named after one of its promoters, Fidel Tristán.
The Museum hosts the world's largest collection of American jade, which dates primarily from 300 BC to 800 AD. Other Pre-columbian artifacts in display are gold, ceramic and stone pieces. The views from the 11th floor, where the Museum is located, down to San José and the mountains beyond are excellent. There are other temporary exhibit-rooms showing the works of national and international artists.
The Museum is located on Avenue 7, between Streets 9 and 11. Opening hours are week-days from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. For further information call 287-6034. Entrance fee is $2.50.
