Isla del Caño
Located about 15 miles off the Osa Peninsula, Isla del Caño offers many
incredible sights and even mysteries. The island is an absolute biological
reserve. The crystalline waters make a perfect place for diving, with an
inestimable amount aquatic life. On the island one can find archeological
ruins...Indian burial sites, and the mysterious spheres made of stone. Some of
these giants can weigh up to two tons. Noone knows who and how these were made
or what their purpose is. The island is easy to get to from Drake Bay and
Corcovado. Pods of whales are often seen along the channel between the main land
and the island.
Isla del Coco
The island and the area around it are a National Park. The island lies
between Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands, so getting there is no mean feat.
The rewards are great, however. Numerous waterfalls tumble off the side of the
high cliffs directly into the ocean below. The water is so clear you can easily
see the incredible numbers and variety of fish right on deck. Beautiful trails
connect the two main bays, where pirates and travellers have left there graffiti
on the stones. And, of course, there is the pirate treasure that is rumoured to
be buried there. Even if there is no gold, this island holds a better
treasure-nature untouched.
