Things To Know

Taxes:
Remember to budget 16% tax to your hotel bills. Most law abiding restaurants will include 13% in addition to the gratuity charge of 10%. Small restaurants and sodas include these charges on the menu prices, but it's worth checking in advance to avoid confusion when the bill comes.

Departure Tax:
Be ready with $17 when you leave the airport. You'll have to pay the exit tax. There are several men walking around collecting the tax. Just make sure you keep your tax receipt for when you check-in.

Tipping
Gratuity is always added onto the restaurant bill. Don't feel obligated to tip above the 10% unless you feel like you received better than average service. Taxi drivers don't get tips unless they provide additional services. It's common to tip tour guides and boat crew about 20% depending on your treatment.
