Description: The cleaning process involves the removal of parasites in the fish’s body, both externally and internally, including the gills. These are performed by various underwater creatures such as cleaner shrimps and numerous species of cleaner fishes, especially wrasses and guppies. These fishes eat the parasites directly off the skin of the fish and will eventually swim into the mouth and gills of the fish to be cleaned. Cleaning stations are often associated with coral features located either on the top of the coral head or in slots between two outcroppings.
