Types of Sharks in Maldives
There are a total of 26 different shark species to be spotted in the waters of Maldives. The whale shark or Rhincodon typus is one of the widely seen shark species in the Maldives. Normally sighted during the southwest monsoon, the whale shark in Maldives is a rather friendly creature despite its large size.
The Galeocerdo cuvier or more famously known as the tiger shark can also be seen in the Maldives. Scuba divers and swimmers must be careful though as the tiger shark in Maldives has a reputation of being a man-eater.

Another wonderful shark species to be spotted in Maldives is the Sphyrna lewni. Known as the hammerhead shark in common knowledge, large schools of these sea creatures are often observed by divers in specific dive sites in Maldives.
